Any chance we get screwed by the BCS?

I have said on numerous occasions that the BCS is a load of crap - you can't spell BCS without BS. As I was driving to the gym this morning I had a disturbing thought:

Assuming that we beat Bama and OU wins, presumably that would set up a UF - OU title game. Bama would fall and we should leapfrog Texas to end up at least number 2. I would think we would be number 1 since Missouri isn't ranked that high. But is there a slight possibility that we would not leapfrog Texas and end up number 3 and out of the National Championship game? UT is a bit ahead of us in the BCS. I don't think that we would still be behind UT if we beat Bama, but with the computers and the BCS, who knows? We didn't jump ahead of them by beating a ranked FSU, while they beat an unranked and terrible Texas A&M team.

What do you all think?

Not in the BCS though - we are number 4.

We'll leap frog Texas if we beat Alabama, merely due to the fact that we play an extra game against a quality opponent and they're sitting home (eating cheeseburgers, lol). We just need to stay focused on Bama, win the game, and everything else takes care of business.

I already have a Bama fan uncle calling me up, telling me how they're going to shut down Tebow. Okey-doke, dood--whatever you say! You might wanna tell it to Geno Hayes and LSU and everyone else who's already said the same thing.

Granted, I am a homer. But Bama has not faced a team like us. Didn't they have some close calls this year already?

Yeah, I'm worrying about that too. I think here's the big key in our favor. We beat #1 Bama, the writers (who have us at #2) make us #1 -- no doubt about it. Sooners will get some first-place votes, Texas maybe a few, but the Gators ascend.

The coaches, who have us at #4, definitely move us to #1 or #2 for beating #1 Bama. Probably #1, but maybe they hold out and put OU #1.

There is no way we stay behind Texas in the coaches' poll after beating the #1 team in the country. The polls are still a huge factor in BCS calculations, and this will turn our way if we win in Atlanta.

The computers will also give us a big boost for having improved our strength of schedule enormously in the SECCG. (We'd be ahead of Texas now if Tennessee and LSU had sucked a little less this year -- book it.)

Bottom line: Florida wins, Florida goes.

What Toothy wrote reminds me that I still can't believe UGA freaking choked and blew it against Georgia Tech. Thanks a lot, guys! Way to represent the conference!

That boy Paul Johnson coached Navy these last few happy years. The running game he has crafted is a marvel to watch. The big question is whether he could make it work at the top level.

I think punching 409 yards worth of holes in formerly #1-ranked Georgia is making it work at the top level. Congratulations to the dude. That's pretty badass.

The SEC is looking pretty seedy this year. Getting punked left and right. As I said on some other thread, we ought to hold our tongues before we go pissing on the ACC for a while -- and that was before the ACC took three of four from the SEC this past weekend (Ga Tech/GA, Clemson/SC, Wake/Vandy, with only the Gators holding serve).

If the SEC wants to continue sending one- and two-loss teams to the MNCG, they better start beating Wyoming again.

Granted, I think you are right. And if it were just up to the AP and Coaches Poll I think there would be nothing to worry about. But how much do the computers weigh into the BCS? We have seen non-conference champs back into the NC game in the past. OU did it and I think Nebraska did too.

You are also right about the SEC sucking this year. We better be careful or we won't have the cache of being the toughest conference in the country.

I know that I should have wanted UGly to win for our strength of schedule, but I cannot ever, in good conscience, root for them. Although, I did pick them against Hawaii, but I was playing for money.....

all we (or bama for the matter) have to do is win...you win, you go...'nuff said.\\

the tricky thing'll occur at the BIG12 championship...if okie wins in a less than impressive way, i believe texas goes to the NC...texas got jobbed imo but the tiebreaker is what it is...imo, texas should be playing for their conf game and they should be in okie's situation right now....that situation is win and win good to get to the NC...win in OT or win ugly and UT's going...i don't think missouri has a shot at winning...OU's offense is so fine tuned despite my thoughts that the Big12 don't play defense.

bama on the other hand will be a difficult game for us...their whole left side of their offense line could play and start in the pro's right now...they are gonna run that side all day long and we well need to prepare for that....their WHOLE oline is massive and with antwine and patchan out, our starting dline will need to muster up the strength and endurance to sustain their defensive gameplan since we no longer have the luxury of substituting fresher bodies like we've done in the past....i understand marsh will be 100% but coming off a knee injury, and having to play undersized to his opponent, i don't know how effective he will be given how delicate a knee is and how susceptible it can be to re-injury....our battle will occur on the defenses right side and i believe that to be a very big key to the game.

where did you copy and paste that from.

i keed, i keed. just you were the one claiming fsu might give us problems.
for the record, fsu always scares me. ever since the game in 94 i think. the one where i think we went in at the half up 28-3 and the game ended 31-31.

Rad, the good news is that I trust in Urban and the boys to come up with a good game plan to correct that. One interesting thing to note - I haven't seen Meyer get outcoached, in in our losses. Ouor team has been outplayed, but I don't think we have ever been outcoached.

auburn @ BHG and the LSU game in 2007

tubberville outcoached meyer controlling the clock and controlling the LOS with a steady dosage of run and short passes...tubberville countered a fast florida defense with an abundance of counter runs, traps and screen (both hb and wr)

les miles outcoached meyer by calling for aggressive fake fg's and aggressive 4th down gambles paying off.

Hmmm - good points. Still I think they will have a plan. They know what is at stake. And our boys are no slouches either - I think we look better than we did in 2006.

It's gonna be a good game. Harvin limping doesn't worry me as much as Patchan and Antwine being out. I think our depth at RB is cartoonish: we'll get yards. (Remember Kestahn Moore? What is he, sixth on the depth chart now? Seventh if you consider Tebow a runner?) Stopping the run is the worry.

Linebackers are gonna have to be sharp and get good reads.

Wouldn't hurt to get a couple of turnovers go our way.

We look miles better than 2006. Look at the 2006 scores again. The Gators couldn't put anyone away. That championship was highly improbable. And Auburn beat UF by 12 points.

If Bama beats us, good for them, and I hope they go all the way.

This was on the front page of Yahoo today. It was titled Scenarios where Florida could be left out of the BCS.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/BCS-Realpolitik-Oklahoma-it-is-but-a-new-route?urn=ncaaf,125550

That being said, I think that if we win, we are in. But never underestimate the ability of a computer to screw things up.

Well, we're 1/2 in the polls. Good enough, and about what I thought would happen.

Interesting that Texas went from 0/0 first place votes in AP/Coaches' to 6/4 despite not playing and their two main rivals for the BCS CG winning important games convincingly.

Those are State of Texas Sour Grapes votes, nothing but.
