Apparently, one Knoxville media outlet is reporting that the Vollies are going to hire Jon Gruden as head coach. If so, that's going to cost UT some change, since the Bucs just signed Gruden to a contract extension.

I heard that Spurrier has announced he will NOT be a candidate for the job.

I heard Cutcliffe said he didn't want it (announced right around when Spurrier stated the obvious). Though I bet he'd be willing to change his mind for $$.

Tennessee is an awful job. There is very little top talent in that state so you have to recruit nationally. I think the days of ut being a power are over.

Maybe so, but if you ain't gonna recruit nationally, forget about it these days. You turn into Ralph Friedgen -- a hit with someone else's players, a miss with your own. That stadium still seats a hundred thousand people, and the new coach gets one or two years' free pass before they have to win 9 games. I think it's a great fucking job.

Can you name more than 2 or 3 programs that can recruit nationally with any success?
USC is the only one that can do it consistently.

they're going to pay big money for the buyout and then for someone to take the job and whistle all the way to the bank.
