The battle for backup quarterback is officially getting heated. Cameron Newton and John Brantley are in the midst of one of the most intriguing battles this spring. Regardless of how heated the battle gets, Newton said there is no hard feelings between the two.

Q: “What is you and Brantley’s relationship like?”

A: “We’re good friends on and off the field. He’s making me better and I’m making him better. It’s a competing thing, nothing personal.

Q: “What is Tebow like for you two?”

A: “Tebow does his job. He’s like our leader on and off the field. If I ask Tim at any point if he can help me watch film, he’s there. I know go to Tim or Coach Mullen and they’re going to tell me.”

Q: “Have the coaches given any hints as to who is the current number two?”

A: “No sir. We both know that nothing is given to us, so we’ve got to come out and work for it. It’s going to be a battle all spring.”

Q: “Were you admittedly nervous last spring?”

A: “Of course. I’ve got the jitterbugs out though! I’m ready to roll. I’m comfortable in the system. This time last year I didn’t know what to do or expect. I’m getting composed now.

Q: “Do you guys like the no huddle offense?”

A: “Of course. Our defense is pretty fast, so we get to get them off tempo sometimes. It’s a new thing, but me, Tim and Brantley have it down for the most part.”
