I love how he didn't gloss over Colt Brennan's trouble at Colorado. I laughed heartily when he mentioned that he spent a week in jail.

Y'know, I actually gained respect for Brennan after watching that. He was very up front about it in his own comments. It seemed like the kid definitely recognizes he made a huge mistake, he was given a second chance, and he made the most of it. He took responsibility for his own previous ass-clownery.

i personally felt like crawling under a rock for the guy...that was inappropriate of fowler and espn to bring up in my opinion....we're talking about a achievement....not the low-lights of ones life.

I totally agree ESPN screwed the pooch with that one. Focus should've been on what Brennan accomplished this year.

Everything I have seen with Colt Brennan over the last year has been pretty positive about the screw up. He has always owned up to it and took responsibility. Rad is right where that the Heisman ceremony wasn't the best place to bring this kind of thing up

I still think it was funny, at least in light of what his coach and the Hawaii fans have been saying.

I think that ESPN did the right thing by being upfront about it. I thought it brought great closure to the career of Colt Brennan, I am happy for him that he turned his life around.

i don't see how his troubles were relevant to him being undefeated this year.

They were relevant because everyone always wants to see the success stories. It made him much more human to people to hear how he turned his life around. The same way the story about Tebow's parents being told to abort him, it shows you how these people overcame odds. How many kids put in Brennan's place would have been successful? And how many could have continued down a path of being in and out of prison for the rest of their lives?
You are looking at it like ESPN dogged him, they were doing it to show how much he has changed his life and what a success story he turned out to be. If he was cool with it, shouldn't you be?

tebow - overcame obstacles as an infant thanks to faith
mcfadden - overcame a bad neighborhood environment thanks to good parenting
daniel - overcame stereotypical height restraints thanks to perserverance
brennan - overcame 7 days in jail due to a bad decision thanks to leaving town
3 guys with overcoming something they had nothing to do with and was beyond their ability to change. tebow couldn't just change his health if he wanted to, mcfadden couldn't just move his family out of his neighborhood if he wanted to, daniel couldn't just grow 6 inches if he wanted to.
brennan got dogged tt. they could've talked about his human story of integrating and immersing himself into a culture he knew little about until he got there...and/or how greatly loved he is by this said culture in such a short amount of time. he got dogged dude.

Call it dogged if you want but I ask again. If he was ok with it, shouldn't you be?
He has openly spoke about his maturation process since that arrest. It isn't like ESPN dug up arrest reports that nobody knew about and blinsided him on national TV.
I would also bet you a dime to a dollar that they approached(ESPN) him long before Sat. night and spoke with him and his family about the story and he said ok.

how does him being ok with it figure into what i (or espn) want to do?
i know my wife would be ok if i wanted to smoke a cigar in the house in my office at home but i'm not going to do it...her feelings on a particular issue doesn't dictate my policy.
so now you're supposed to ask me, "well if you want to, and she's fine with it, why not do it?" ... problem is, 'i don't wanna do it' ... i'm glad she's ok but i just don't think it's right to smoke in the house.
espn needn't consult colt brennan on his opinion or approval of the subject matter...it should never have been a topic because it was inappropriate to bring it up...
the silence and awkwardness after fowlers '7 days in jail' comment was the judge and jury there tt. no offense but, this is what's amiss with society these days and espn is a good example and representative of that...no more decorum...no more mannered presentation...no more social etiquette....no more elegance and decency.

We shall agree to disagree Rad. Both of us are too hard headed to change our opinion.
I thought it was a testament to his character that he made mistakes, acknowledged his mistakes, asked for forgiveness, and became by all accounts a solid citizen and a hell of a football player. You took it differently then I, no big deal, you have been wrong before and will be wrong again......

I agree that Fowler shouldn't have mentioned it.
I mean, who among us hasn't wandered into some girl's room, drunk and with genitals exposed, fondled the object of our affection? Why, that's hardly a crime at all! Society should forgive and forget, let bygones be bygones and let those without sin cast the first stone.
