Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor was in critical condition after he was shot at his Florida home Monday, police said.

Miami-Dade County police officers were dispatched to Taylor's home at about 1:45 a.m. and found him shot. He was then airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said. He didn't know where on Taylor's body he was shot.

Not good news. Hope the guy pulls through. Reportedly he's in surgery for two wounds, one of which damaged the femoral artery.

i'd jump on the bash the U bandwagon in a heart beat if this happened on a street corner or in some club at 3 in the morning. but at home, that is just sad. he was a talented player and i hope he pulls through. reportedly he's out of surgery and they're waiting to see how he responds.

they aren't sure yet about the circumstances....still investigating...possible robbery/burglary...possible self-inflicted wound...

self inflicted? hadn't heard that one yet. seems like an odd place to shoot yourself.

had heard that there was a reported attempted burglary there like last week or something.

looks like it was ANOTHER attempted burglary...it sucks taylor ended up being such a target for whoever. apparently he was pretty responsive a few hours after surgery (squeezed his hand and made facial expressions) but they are still worried there may be some lasting brain damage.

Sharpstein is Taylor's former lawyer:
Sharpstein said Taylor's girlfriend told him the couple was awakened by loud noises, and Taylor grabbed a machete he keeps in the bedroom for protection. Someone then broke through the bedroom door and fired two shots, one missing and one hitting Taylor, Sharpstein said. Taylor's 1-year-old daughter, Jackie, was also in the house at the time, but neither she nor Taylor's girlfriend were injured.

RIP.

He was the Redskins' best player, and a guy who'd made a turnaround in his life since having a daughter 18 months ago.

Here's the Post article.

Never bring a machete to a gun fight; then again, when you're a convicted felon you're not legally permitted to possess a gun. That said, after his home was broken into just 8 days ago, I would've thought that a man of his resources would have at least installed a security system.

There is speculation that it might have been a "hit," for something he might have done in his past. I heard on the radio this morning that they cut the phone line and went right for the bedroom. Whoever broke into his house earlier had left a knife on one of the beds. Was that a warning? They left his baby and baby-momma alone - again, if the motive was mere burglary, why not commit 3 murders instead of just one?

I think this was premeditated.

from the article T posted:
The shooting came eight days after another incident was reported at Taylor's home. An intruder pried open a front window, went through drawers and a safe and left a kitchen knife on a bed, according to the police report of the Nov. 18 incident.
That sounds like 1 of 2 things:

1. Taylor knew things about a shady character from his past and they were spooked by something; or
2. Straight burglary, but maybe looking for something specific? Knife on the pillow to throw off the scent dogs?

The world is a sketchy place, regardless.

I think Doc is on to something. It does seem kind of weird that supposedly they busted through the door and only fired 2 shots. Then again if you were going to shoot to kill why would you aim for the legs. Just something doesn't add up

It stinks of small-time thuggery. It certainly isn't a clean, professional hit.

Anyway, RIP.

No one "aims for the legs" when shooting, at least no one rational. The whole "shoot them in the legs" is a Hollywood myth. When you point a gun at anything, you should do so only with the intent of destroying it completely. For a person, that means ending his life. The first lesson anyone should receive when holding a gun is that one shouldn't point it at anything one doesn't wish to destroy.

The fact that he got shot in the groin area may probably be attributed to a panicked shot by a person who doesn't really practice shooting. It's not easy to hit center mass on a stationary target if you have only rarely fired a gun, if at all. Add the adrenaline of a confrontation and a moving target and it's pretty easy to miss your target, even at close range. Taylor probably went down immediately, the shooter panicked and ran.

Yeah...the guy probably didn't expect Taylor to be standing up and holding a machete when he entered the bedroom.

RIP
