BTW, I read an article today praising Richt for encouraging his players to storm the field after the touchdown. I was so irritated, that I actually wrote the guy an e-mail. Here it is:

I want to briefly respond to your article in which you praise Georgia coach Mark Richt for allowing (and encouraging) his players to run onto the football field to celebrate the first touchdown of the Florida-Georgia game. You, sir, are as classless as Coach Richt for condoning this type of behavior. The tactic used by the Georgia coaching staff to "invigorate" their players was both unprofessional and uncalled for. Frankly, I was appalled by Richt's decision which occurred just one week after he chastised his players for stomping on another team's logo. So, stomping on another team's logo is disrespectful, yet allowing your players to rush the field during the middle of a game is not?

Pretty soon, coaches across the nation will be following in Richt's footsteps. Where do we draw the line? What if a fight had ensued and a player was seriously injured? There are other ways to motivate a team. What happened to a good, motivating pre-game speech? Or getting the crowd pumped up from the benches? Mark Richt acts as though his team is the only team in the country who needed motivation this Saturday, and frankly, that's just selfish. The behavior of Georgia's players and coaching staff was atrocious and could have gone without encouragement from anyone in the media, such as yourself.

Awesome letter, Kate.

Of course, Richt has now written an apology to the conference and UF specifically. And of course, he only realized he needed to do this after the commissioner of the SEC decided to give little Marky a sharp talking to.

My husband is still annoyed with this thing...he said that part of him wishes we had started fighting...because then they would have likely gotten in trouble...or better yet, he wished that after review it really wasn't a touchdown and they would HAVE REALLY looked bad. It likely would have had the opposite effect on his team that it did that day! LOL

I agree with your husband Allison. I keep thinking that if had won, people would view the incident differently.

as we saw in last years hurrican game, chaos rules supreme...and when all those opposing team mates are charging the field, you can't help but think you were getting bum rushed...if a fight ensued, and i was judging the whole matter, i'd hold those who stormed the field liable for any injuries that would have occured and any suspensions that would have been handed out. it was unsportsmanlike, inciteful, and antagonistic.

no place for that kind of stuff in sport...it's all part of the left-wing, liberal, 'what's in it for me' conspiracy

UGA is lucky that UF players have class. Had that been FSU or UM, it would have been an all out brawl. Richt is a POS in my book now.

agree. i wouldn't give a shit if our players fought.

IMHO, the refs got that unsportsmanlike penalty WRONG. it was flagrant. an entire team charging the field during the game (albeit while the ball is dead) puts their opponent in danger. flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct = disqualification.

ho-hum, i sing my song. FUCK GEORGIA.
