IfThe Hobbit had been filmed shortly after the book's publication in 1937 (it's a wonder that it wasn't), one easily could imagine a lively affair full of great character actors and cleverly goofy special effects that would have moved the story along in smart style in under two hours. In Jackson's academically fastidious telling, however, it's as ifThe Wizard of Oz had taken nearly an hour just to get out of Kansas.
Eh, I will still see it because of the amazing job he did with the Lord of the Rings.

Hobbit and LOTR are my favorite books, so I will be there this weekend! Yeah, this movie is close to 3 hours long. COnsidering it is the shortest book, I am not sure how they are getting 3 movies out of it. From what I have read, Jackson put a lot of extra stuff in the movies. At the end of Return of the King there is an appendix with lots of info. I never read that part. I read The Hobbit again over Thanksgiving and I can see how they get 2 movies out of it, not sure how they will get 3.
