Jon and Kate did IVF and they ended up with 7 viable embryos, and ended up with 6 healthy and happy babies.
and now they're celebrities exploiting the popularity of their family.

Obama ends funding ban for abortion groups abroad
1 hr 49 mins ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama on Friday will lift restrictions on U.S. government funding for groups that provide abortion services or counseling abroad, reversing a policy of his Republican predecessor George W. Bush, an administration official said.

"It will be today. He's going to make an executive order (lifting the global gag rule)," the official said.

The Democratic president's decision is a victory for advocates of abortion rights on an issue that has become a tit-for-tat policy change each time the White House shifts from one party to the other in recent years.

When the ban was in place, no U.S. government funding for family planning services could be given to clinics or groups that offer abortion services or counseling in other countries even if the funds for those activities come from non-U.S. government sources.

It has been called the Mexico City Policy because it was unveiled at a United Nations conference there in 1984 and became one of the centerpiece social policies of the conservative administration of Republican former President Ronald Reagan.

Former President Bill Clinton rescinded the rule when he took office in January 1993 and his successor, Republican George W. Bush, reinstated it in January 2001.

And being able to give them things they never would have been able to afford for them without it...like good health care. Also, they have been giving back a lot to charity as well. Loves me some Jon and Kate.

a ringing endorsement for birth manipulation.

Rad...I read her book that I got for Christmas...in it she talks a lot about how grateful they are for all that was given to them...they had volunteers every single day helping them feed the babies up until they were 6 months and a few that stayed on until they were one. They are very active in their church and community and even though you may think of it as manipulation, they did not intend on getting 6 babies when they do IVF...as slider and others mentioned, it's rare for them to even get one viable. But as they are, I believe things happen for a reason.

For me, it's easy to see why God gave them 6 babies...first, Kate (while being a control-freak) is also one of the most well-equipped people I could imagine to handle all 6 babies. Also, because of all this and the notoriety they've gotten, they do speaking engagements at churchs and hospitals and who knows how many people they have encouraged or spoken to. I know for me, whenever I get down or feel like I'm overwhelmed, watching their show makes me feel grateful for the problems I have and quite frankly, it helps.

Just my point-of-view. Now, don't get me started on the Duggars...they just keep having kids over and over again on purpose. In my POV, they are just weird.

lol about the duggars.

all i'm sayin is, there's a lot of people in need of 'volunteers'...they're gettin it because they've exploited their popularity...speaking at churches and hospitals and donating back to charity is a great thing but it's the least they can do for taping their lives and exploiting their popularity.

don't get me wrong - i think they're doing a fantastic job of raising the 8....lots of patience involved as we all know...kate's admitted as much to saying she's doing this all to help fund college for the kids...gimme a break...be responsible and have less kids.

^^^My husband says the same thing Doc...but if you watch every episode like I do (and I wouldn't expect you to), you'd see that he really isn't all that miserable. He definitely loves his kids.

And Rad...I get ya...I know that you are not in favor of manipulating nature when it comes to getting pregnant and that is where we will agree to disagree...but you have a very valid point.

btw - i just heard of a woman giving birth to 8 yesterday

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/27/us/27brfs-SECONDSETOFO_BRF.html

now then...here's some food for thought.

should the octuplets be given their own television show too? they too will need the money to put those kids through college right?
will this only be topical until someone in north dakota gives birth to 12?
if they don't decide to do a tv show, is it because they're not marketable or because they choose to have a go at it modestly and without the fanfare?

I think he does love his kids. His wife, however, is another matter.

This just in! A photo of the octuplets and their parents has been released!

If they are interesting to watch, I'd watch them. I think the appeal of Jon and Kate is just them...they have a funny relationship and come off as real people. I can't watch the Duggars because they are just too weird and foreign to me. I also watch Little People Big World and even though I started watching it because of them being little and all that, I just started to like the family as a unit and like to watch what they do, how they handle their unique situation, etc.

You gotta have that "it" factor IMO. If you don't have it, no one will watch no matter how many kids you have. There have been a ton of one hour shows about multiple births but Jon and Kate obviously struck a cord that some of the others didn't. Good for them...and me, because I love watching them.
