Bill is hoping for Winningham...does NOT want Mullen or Strong back as HC. Meh...I'm glad he seems to be saying he'll help with the search for his replacement...that should make it an easier sitch all around...hope he can keep all the recruits he got for us.

ESPN SportsCenter said two things that cheered me.
1. It's not life-threatening. Meyer will be helping find the new coach. He will remain in some as-yet-undefined capacity. He plans to live in Gainesville.
2. It was implied that either Dan Mullen or Charlie Strong might be plucked right out of their new jobs and back to Gainesville. Now, I'd take Charlie Strong in a heartbeat over Bob Stoops, but that's just me.

I'd be fore Kyle Willingham. He knows how to whoop Bama, which I think is pretty important.

Will Muschamp is a name others have been saying. I think Mullen maybe.

I'm still in shock.
I really like Chris Petersen from Boise State as a possible replacement. But that's just me.

I don't know who the best hire would be, however, I'd be happy with any of the following (in no particular order):
Muschamp (has proved himself as a DC time and time again - including whipping us while he was with Auburn - and has been promised the Keys to the Mercedes that is Texas; grew up in Gainesville), Whittingham, Mullen (proved himself in his first year at MSU), Strong, Patterson and Peterson (though, I'm not as sold on those two).
I don't want the following:
Shannahan and Gruden (would bolt for the NFL the first time they came a calling), Petrino (would bolt for the right job at Pizza Hut if they called), Spurrier (please, God, no)
Not coming and would prefer people to stop talking about it:
Stoops

^^^LOL about Petrino...we don't want him that is for sure. Todd, why the outburst? Did you hear anything specific?

slide, i hope that was a typo and you meant bob, not mike stoops. i'd rather not waste time on bob, and i'd march my little ass down to gainesville and slap foley if he even considered mike.
as for urban, i'm sure he can collect a decent paycheck from uf for showing up at a dinner every other month and putting his name on fundraising letters. he won two championships; no way foley lets the meyer kids want for anything.

I figure Bob Stoops will get another million dollars a year out of Oklahoma for this.
I like Charlie Strong. How would that work, yanking him out of a job before the ink is dry? (Maybe he hasn't signed anything yet!)

from bigtime:
"News is breaking that Meyer may have had a change of heart, and will take a leave of absence, and plans to come back next season...."

This just in: Several reports have emerged that Urban has had a "change of heart" and plans to come back. Palm Beach Post says he told players he is reconsidering. More later.
I am just thinking about what Billy Donovan did and wondering if Urban might develop "buyer's remorse" and change his mind about leaving.
This just in from a Tim Casey's "team source" -- Steve Addazzio will be the interim coach for the Sugar Bowl while Urban is figuring it out.
Talk to Steve Spurrier and he said if it's true, "that's good news because coaches like urban are good for the game." Steve said that the pressures of coaching can bring you down and "sometimes you make decisions that you regret two days later."

Bill just got an email from Gator Country saying the same thing about the hesitation. I wonder if he talked to Lou Holtz...he was saying last night that he always recommends NOT making big decisions like this when you're under any kind of stress or illness.
If he could learn to delegate and not be so hands-on with every single thing, he could probably manage a lot better. It will take some therapy (probably) for him to learn to that, but isn't his wife a psychologist or something like that?

about to give *me* a heart attack... argh. seriously, if he has heart probs, it's probably best that he not be in such a stressful job.

You know I don't know HOW much stress he will be able to avoid in that job. He can cut back and delegate more but geesh, I get a case of the nervous shits almost every Saturday so I can imagine what he goes through every week being the coach.
In any case, it's never a dull moment in Gator Nation huh?

I think the stress-induced chest pains is a smokescreen. Either there is some other treatable medical issue or something crazy going on behind the scenes.
Thus ends AA's wild speculation.
