my mother and father have both dealt with multiple situations where they were equally insulted/threatened and did not call the cops on the offender.

my mom had one of my brother's teachers come across a table at her because she got really fucking pissed at my mom in a meeting. because my mom called her out on unfair practices in her class that affected my brother. the woman literally came across the table. with her hands raised. the asst. principal had to restrain the woman. my mom didn't call the cops. she didn't file a report with the school board or any bullshit. she talked to the asst. principal and the principal after the meeting, got everything straightened out and the teacher was disciplined in-house according to the school's policies.

your moms choice.

but if the teacher was to go postal the following year, it'd be good to have something filed with the police is my own opinion.

anyone coming at me with the intention to cause physical harm in a setting like that should be dealt with to the full extent of the law. your mother chose to trust the school and essentially trust the teacher to behave...that is your mothers choice and thank god it worked out for her.

You guys are assuming that these are normal guys. This is going to sound bad and there is no other way to say it. Most of these kids are inner city hood rats. You talk about them like they are intelligent thoughtful human beings. If it wasn't for a football scholly they would be slingin' drugs or something. I love and respect these guys for playing for our University but listen to postgame interviews. Actually listen to these kids talk....They are not like me and you and you can't expect them to act like us.

That sounds bad, but it is reality.

i hear ya tt and i respect you for coming out and saying that.

having said that, no one gets a free pass just cause you can tackle good or you can run 4.4 40s ya know? the hammer has to come down on the inner city youths so they know that the god given talent takes you so far, the total package needs to be developed...not just the muscles and the brawn but the mind and the logical processes of thought as well...

if what you're saying is correct, than urban meyer is not doing his job in preparing these young men to become positive contributors to society...if what you're saying is correct, he's not rounding the youths out like he says he does...we all know he's doing a great job in preparing these kids for the football field but he is not doing a great job in providing these youths with an education in logic, civility, and respect.

oh I believe in civil behavior. my problem is why are the cops necessary? why should these two 20 yr old kids spend hours locked up behind fucking bars for some BULLFUCKINGSHIT? i can understand if you say they need some sort of discipline or punishment. if you say so. me, i think punishment and discipline only go so far. of course you can't simply let people slide. but rad, have you ever been in jail? have you ever seen a cell? ever dealt with that whole situation? i'm just curious what your level of experience is with the criminal system.

i dunno. i don't take the power of police or the physical restriction of personal freedom lightly.

i've never been to jail but i'm familiar with it...i'm familiar enough to know that you don't do fucked up things on friday nights because no judge will see you til monday morning...3 days in the pokey...don't fuck up on friday night :)

I would agree that Urban lasts control or is taking higher risk kids. Look at the arrest record on his watch. It is atrocious. For someone that sold us on disipline when he was hired, he lacks it or instilling it.

there's still hope.

he can take someones captaincy away as he did...he can bench players as he has...he can make a total example of others if he chooses to.

he should to send the message out that this aint the wild, wild west where anything goes. there's still a chance.

as tt had stated in this thread or the other thread, we're talking about inner city youths...he's suggested that some inner city youths don't think rationally as you or i do....with that said, how are you going to send your message to two types of people with the same course of action? you can't...you don't.

some respond to severe warnings, some respond to taking liberties away.

I hope he does Rad. I love Urban as our coach. I have met him and talked to him. I think he is a perfect fit for all of us. I think his disipline is shit and he needs to tighten it up. I was so pissed when I saw the thread title on GC this morning that I refused to open it. As a graduate of UF and as a BullGator booster, I am sick to fucking death of our football players being arrested. I really hope Urban gets it under wraps before he starts feeling the pressure about it.

The employee is a bigger douchebag for calling the cops than Cunningham and Demps are for doing something so immature/rude/etc.

why?
I despise tattletales...I place them in the same category as thieves. I'm not condoning the players' actions, but sometimes it's best to let things go. If he called the cops while they were still in the shop because he felt his life was in danger (death by sandwich?), fine. If the cops weren't notified until after the players left the shop, the guy deserves a swift kick in the nuts.

I don't think anyone is advocating no punishment at all for these idiots, nor is anyone commending them for their fine behavior. I'm not sure what the argument is about.

However, Rad and Toothy, there are much more important/serious issues that police should spend their resources in handling. Two douchebags who threw a sandwhich at someone being arrested, taking up time in the court room, taking up space in a jail cell, and wasting time of cops should not be one of them. We all agree the punishment should fit the crime, no? Rad, if one of your kids threw a sandwhich at some dude at a subway would you call the cops on him? Or just beat his ass till he got the message? Maybe take him to the store and make him wash dishes or something? That would be more fitting. Arrest, based on what we know at this point, does not appear warranted. Now, if new more aggravating info comes out later, then I reserve the right to change my mind.

Also, you ask what these kids were doing out at 2am. Let's not forget, they are in college. They have no game coming up in the next few days. It's not abnormal (nor wrong) for a college kid to be out at 2am. There is nothing showing they were drunk and driving or anything of that nature that would aggravate the situation (not saying it isn't there, just nothing stating it at this point).

Speaking to people who know the team it sounds like Demps just lost any chance he had of being reinstated (and he was about to be). Cunningham will be punished in house (as it should be done, IMO).

I have no problems suspending people for games (and felt Joiner should've been - his was actually a crime, IMO), however, I just don't think Cunningham's offense (as we know it now) to be severe enough to warrant an arrest/suspension.

you're right, we obviously do not know everything because we've not heard what the offense was that warranted an arrest.

the offense that warranted arrest was "battery" so apparently either the sandwhich or the cups hit the clerk (or he claimed they did...or the officers misinterpreted what he said).

we can support these kids and come up with all sorts of excuses.

facts remain that these kids did something that warranted an arrest...the cops don't go around arresting people for nothing...they've got better things to do.

as for being out at 2am, someone here posted that their daddy said nothing good comes out of being out past midnight (i think it was ef or mlr)...take your chances and do what you like...there's a better chance getting arrested outside past midnight than there is being in your dorm room before midnight imo.

so it boils down to judgement for ALL these cases....or lack of.

It was said on Gainesville radio rad that they did pay for the chips.

so is the counter clerk going to call the cops because JC didn't pay for his chips? don't know.

so is JC going to resolve matters better by throwing shit around the store? HELL NO!!!!

poor judgement imo....kid needs to be taught that his decision making process is flawed.

I disagree that it warranted an arrest. I'm not certain that the GPD has better things to do. I do believe they enjoy nailing students as much as possible, and not just co-eds.

rad, no one is making excuses for them. Quit twisting words. I agree their decision making process is flawed and they need to be disciplined APPROPRIATELY. I do not believe a criminal conviction permanently on your record is the proper disciplinary tool in this circumstance.

hater.....look.

we all agree that JC was acting inappropriately...we all know he got arrested...we all agree it is unfortunate.

why are some of us here justifying his acts and why are some of us here enraged that an arrest was the measure taken as opposed to a ticket?

why are we going out of way to understand if the clerk was actually hit or why are we wanting to go out of way to say a clerk shouldn't feel threatened by a sandwhich?

am i missing something here? kid did something that is not considered to be behavior which is within the guidelines of civility.

from a law standpoint, something occurred that warranted the GPD to seek him out and apprehend....do we really think the GPD would seek him out to apprehend if it was not warranted???? are we really resigned to the fact that the GPD has a hardon for these athletes???? do we really believe that the athletes have targets on their backs???? if we do believe that, don't we think the kids know that too??? and if they know it, WHY THE HELL ARE THEY CONTINUING TO EGG ON THE GAINSEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT BY COMMITTING CRIMES AND ACTS OF DEFIANCE. if they don't know it, WHY DON'T THEY??? are the coaches not coaching?

same type of shit that happens elsewhere and we're all over it...time to wake up folks...these kids don't know what is right and what is wrong...make an example of someone and show your teeth urban...otherwise, you turn the university of florida into a breeding ground for athletes who believe they are above rules, who act without thinking, who don't put much stock into consequences, and who don't give a shit about society as a whole and care more about 'what's in it for ME'!
