I'd imagine that someday telling a kid you saw Tiger play golf is going to be the equivalent of your grandpa telling you he saw Babe Ruth play baseball....mythical.

tiger hoists the cup after kissing it and is being interviewed by bob costas
tigers says the week was unbelievable...course set up was fair but difficult...fans made the tournament unreal...ebb and flow was incredible...back and forth...90 holes not enough.
3 shot lead evaporated quickly...military golf he says...says he struggled slapping it around.
knee is sore...atmosphere kept him going...he's glad he's done...he would never have quit

When they showed Tiger holding his daughter, he called in Nate to take a look at his "biscuit"...It's our running joke with Nate "slap it on a bisuit". She's a cutie...definitely will be a model, IMO.

re: first open as a father...means everything to have her...talking about his dad and remembering him...talks about sharing it with his daughter now that his dad is no longer here

Great synopsis Rad. I have it Tivo'd at the house and was looking forward to hearing the quotes. Thanks for posting.
Once again, I wish I could pat Rocco on the back. He is the first golfer that I have seen really challenge Tiger and take it to him. I really wanted that putt to fall so I could see them keep going.

I said this yesterday but I re-watched the coverage last night and I also watched his interview on the Golf Channel and Rocco is ALL CLASS. Very personable and very respectful to the game.

They just reported on the news that Tiger's going to have to go in for additional knee surgery and is out for the rest of the season after that performance. Dood's a beast.

Actually I think it will help him and Johnny Miller commented on it during the open. Tiger swings so hard at the ball that it leaves very little room for error. If the knee gets banged up it will actually slow him down and make him more consistant.
I wish him the best in his surgery and recovery. That 18 is getting closer and closer and I am routing for him.

rad, tsifu.
nothing against Jack but i'm rooting for him to get to and beyond 18 majors too. for the longest time it was thought to be an unattainable feat.
i
hudder: agree with Johnny Miller that a slightly bad knee may be good for Tiger in the long run. it's not like taking off a few yards is going to leave him in bad shape.

TT, I never thought of it like that....imagine if Tiger was consistently in the fairway.

That has long been a huge hole in Tiger's game. Let me put some numbers to it. Tiger has won every event he has played in this year except for the Masters where he finished 2nd. That is incredible. Now, he ranks 154th in the world in fairways hit. He only hits 57.86% of fairways. Contrast that with guys that are hitting 75% or better.
Can you imagine what he could do and the low rounds he would shoot if he was hitting an extra 2 or 3 fairways per round. That shaves 1-4 strokes off per round. He could really be putting a beating on those guys.

with all of his reported focus and mental toughness i'm surprised he hasn't slowed his swing on the tee for more consistency and fairways. i mean, the guy's good at hitting out of trouble and all but he could be deadly from more fairways.

why bother when you're winning everything anyway - had no reason to change.

you guys are not realizing the fact that if you can bomb it away from the tee recklessly and still be a wedge away (in the rough), that is better for him than being in the fairway with an 8 or a 7.
cause with a short game like he's got, who cares what the fairway stat is?

I disagree. First off, he isn't going to lose 35-40 yards from his drive which is what it would take for him to go from a wedge to a 7/8. You also can't get spin on the ball out of the rough and that limits how close he can get it to the hole. Even though he is amazing at scrambling, he has to be putting well to do it.
US Open=good putting=win
Masters=poor putting=loss
That is what happens when you miss fairways.

they 'tiger proofed' augusta for that very reason tt
tiger was hitting balls so far and off the fairway that the length outweighed being in the fairway and having to hit long irons as opposed to short ones.
they added trees, they added tees, they added flowers just to keep the competitors from bombing away.
they did it after he lapped the field that one year.

It does seem that even when he doesn't hit the fairway he gets out of trouble easily. I think that is probably the best part of his game, hitting from trouble.

Trees are for the most part irrelevant. If you want to make them hit it straight, grow the rough to about 8 inches.
