Gator Commitment Dorsey has all the tools...

Post by IHateUGAlyDawgs »

Forgive Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson safety Demar Dorsey if he wasn't quite happy with his performance Sunday at the South Florida Express passing camp tryouts. Dorsey has been a bit under the weather and slowed because of it, but still looked like he could run with all the speed that South Florida has to offer. The Gator commitment took a few minutes to talk with Scout.com on Sunday.

Demar Dorsey is a rare athlete that combines excellent height with blinding speed. At 6-2 and 190 pounds he can run with any receiver on the field using his physical ability to take even the best receivers out of their game. He was trying to do all of that Sunday against the best South Florida had to offer.

“It was kind of good today, but I just finished with a bout of flu yesterday and my head was kind of dizzy,” Dorsey said. “I was doing what I could do today...they told me I made the team.”

It wasn't only the sickness that got to Dorsey. He did his best to keep some of the receivers from being able to get into open space, but it seems they were allowing the receivers too much time to break free and get open.

“They were giving them all day today,” he said with a smile of frustration. “They weren't real routes they were running.”

Dorsey has been committed to the University of Florida since October and he still feels that way. That won't keep him from going to visit a few other places.

“I am still committed, but I'm going to take other trips to schools,” he said. “I want to go to West Virginia, Michigan, USC, and North Carolina. I will probably go visit them all this summer.”

The Gators aren't sure where Dorsey will end up. He has such great size and his speed is so tempting to work him at cornerback. For now, Florida wants him to come in with an open mind.

“They have me as a DB right now,” Dorsey said of the Gators. “I bring speed, quickness, and power. I'm a team player and can read the whole field and make plays. I want to play anywhere to help the team...cornerback, safety, or offense if need be.”

Dorsey knows he will be in Gainesville in mid-April when the Gators hit the field for their annual spring game. He loves Florida and the opportunities it affords him to be a Gator.

“I am going up there to watch the spring game,” he said. “I grew up with Florida since I was a kid. I liked it there and the atmosphere with the crowd being into it and everyone in it. It's close to home and my little brother and sister can come watch their big brother play football. I can be a role model so they can stay out of trouble and they can make it to college like I will.”

He certainly keeps up with his future team and knows there is a lot more success for them on the near horizon, including some that they have not reached just yet.

“I am looking forward to be a great athlete and student in the classroom,” he said. “I want to win another national championship like they won two of the last three years. I think they will win it again this year with everyone coming back on defense and Tim Tebow. When I get there the team is going to be as good as it is now or even better.”

As for goals, Dorsey really is as unselfish as they come. Although his biggest personal goal is to raise his GPA from a 2.9 before he graduates, he puts his team first in almost everything he does.

“I want to get a 3.5 GPA and take my team to a state championship,” he said. “I want all the seniors to get D-1 scholarships, I'm not worried about myself.”
