I'm not surprised either. He just hasn't looked like he's having fun coaching this season the way he did his first couple of seasons back with the college game.

I heard Spurrier in an interview before the Fl game and he said he wanted to coach for another 5 or 6 yrs, or so.....At South Carolina. Not interested in TN. Wanted to stay at SC and do something that has not been done...win the big win....SEC, I think??

For what it's worth. That is what he said on that day.

He also said he wouldn't coach into his 60's.

I think it's bull. Spurrier must see that he's never going to win even the East Division at SC. The recruiting base is relatively weak. Spurrier isn't a tireless recruiter -- good but not great, and in the SEC, you're up against great. He can pull out a win against Florida or Georgia now or then, but going 7-1 or 8-0 ain't gonna happen in Columbia.

I think Spurrier left the SEC behind from 1990 to 1996, but the SEC caught up pretty quick. Look how many great QBs and receivers come out of SEC schools now. Spurrier hasn't kept growing and evolving; he has not stayed a step ahead. This was evident before he left Florida and it's damn sure evident now.

I see him staying and coaching another six years, sure, and he's damn sure good enough to do it. But he is no longer the best coach in the conference, and he doesn't have the best job by far. I think not even he can believe that "do something that has not been done...win the big win" line.

I totally agree Toothy...I just think he wants to go out on a high note...unfortunately I don't think that will be possible at this point. He should just go play golf and work on his swing (which is HORRIBLE). Love the guy, but his golf swing is horrendous.
Okay, let's try this!
