Spread the Wealth.

Post by GoneFishinGator »

Friday on my way to lunch at Nick's Restaurant, I passed one of the homeless
guys in that area, with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money."

Once in Nick's, I noticed my waiter had on a "Obama 08" tee shirt.

When the bill came, I decided not to tip the waiter and explained to him
while he had given me exceptional service, that his tee shirt made me
feel he obviously believes in Senator Obama's plan to redistribute the
wealth. I told him I was going to redistribute his tip to someone that
I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. He stood there in
disbelief and angrily stormed away.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $3 and told him to thank the
waiter inside, as I had decided he could use the money more. The
homeless guy looked at me in disbelief but seemed grateful.

As I got in my truck, I realized this rather unscientific redistribution
experiment had left the homeless guy quite happy for the money he did
not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he
did earn.

Well, I guess this redistribution of wealth is going to take a while to
catch on -- with those doing the work.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

Well, this example is ridiculous. The waiter in your example makes, at most, $30,000 a year (and that would be working more than 40/hrs a week). Under Obama's plan, which I assume is what you're no-so-subtly alluding to, only those making over $250,000 a year would see their taxes raised. Under Obama's Earned Income Tax Credit (conceived under that socialist Gerald Ford), which again I am assuming you are alluding to, only those who already work (but make very little) would see this wealth being "spread." Additionally, the upper level brackets would only be raised to the level they were under that socialist Ronald Reagan. Only two Presidents have had lower upper level tax brackets since income tax was first levied federally under the 16th amendment: George W. Bush, and George H.W. Bush.

Fox is right on the money.

I look forward to celebrating President Elect Obama on 11/4.

a serious question johnny - if you were making $250,001 per year....would you like that plan?

Like Eric said, I would be paying 3% more on the one dollar I made over 250,000... I think I could handle it. In fact, if you know of anyone hiring someone of my qualifications for that salary, I would gladly shoulder the burden. :)

It's a slippery slope. You take money from people that have earned it to give it to people who haven't and
you have a recipe for a violent revolution. Our founding fathers would have burned Washington to the ground
at the inception of the income tax, yet we just go along with it. It is the most evil tax system ever devised, because
it can be manipulated by the politicians to give themselves power.

I don't know, Rad. My sister and her husband make well over 250k a year and have an ungodly amount of money in the market, but they are still some of the most staunch democrats you will ever find. I'm not sure I'll ever change in that regard.

That's the problem with Marxism. It's seductive because of the perceived nobility, but in reality a cluster fuck because of human error and greed. Sadly, the far left friends I have go into spittle hurling paroxysms when I disagree about their candidate. At least we can talk about football. :-\

BG, it is my belief that greed is the cause of collapse of both Marxism and Capitalism.
“The Knave abideth.” I dare speak not for thee, but this maketh me to be of good comfort; I deem it well that he be out there, the Knave, being of good ease for we sinners.

You know what's actually really funny? The story that Gone told in the beginning actually happened to me. My cousin is a DIE HARD republican. He got his MBA at UVA's Darden School of business, so he's a smart dude, but he's also pretty crazy... read: creationism, tin foil hat regarding liberals and the media/communists, etc... Anyway, he hands me a card at my sister's wedding for my graduation and it didn't have money in it (fine by me, whatever). It did, however, include a story about how he gave the $50 bill he was going to give me to a homeless person in Orlando, as that's what he thought I would have wanted. hahaha... What a jackass! I wonder if he really gave a homeless guy 50 bucks, or if that cheap bastard was just looking to get out of a gift/try and teach a lesson.

That meal was probably not more than $8. Is that not enough tip?

Ask Rad if he distributed my winnings from the baseball bet to the homeless?

Not if I was picking up the tab and the service was exceptional like G pointed out. But, I am an outlier as I am very generous as a tipper.
