Hernandez is a better blocker than Ingram, but he is also an extremely gifted receiver and YAC guy.

Looks like he can get one to me.14.2.4 Hardship Waiver. A student-athlete may be granted an additional year of competition by the conference
or the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement for reasons of “hardship.” Hardship is defined as
an incapacity resulting from an injury or illness that has occurred under all of the following conditions: (Revised:
8/8/02, 11/1/07 effective 8/1/08)
(a) The incapacitating injury or illness occurs in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition at any
two-year or four-year collegiate institutions or occurs after the first day of classes in the student-athlete’s senior
year in high school; (Revised: 1/10/92 effective 8/1/92, 11/01/01, 8/8/02)
(b) The injury or illness occurs prior to the first competition of the second half of the playing season that
concludes with the NCAA championship in that sport (see Bylaw 14.2.4.3.4) and results in incapacity to
compete for the remainder of that playing season; (Revised: 1/14/97 effective 8/1/97, 4/26/01 effective 8/1/01,
4/3/02, 4/24/08)
(c) In team sports, the injury or illness occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in more than three
contests or dates of competition (whichever is applicable to that sport) or 30 percent (whichever number is
greater) of the institution’s scheduled or completed contests or dates of competition in his or her sport. Only
scheduled or completed competition (including exempted events but excluding scrimmages and exhibition
contests identified as such in the legislation) against outside participants during the playing season that concludes
with the NCAA championship, or, if so designated, during the official NCAA championship playingseason in that sport (e.g., spring baseball, fall soccer), shall be countable under this limitation in calculating both the number of contests or dates of competition in which the student-athlete has participated and the
number of scheduled or completed contests or dates of competition during that season in the sport. Dates of
competition that are exempted (e.g., alumni contests, foreign team in U.S.) from the maximum permissible
number of contests or dates of competition shall count toward the number of contests or dates in which the
student-athlete has participated and the number of scheduled or completed contests or dates of competition
in the season, except for scrimmages and exhibition contests that are specifically identified as such in
the sport’s Bylaw 17 playing and practice season regulations. Scrimmages and exhibition contests that are
not exempted from the maximum permissible number of contests or dates of competition may be excluded
from the calculation only if they are identified as such in the sport’s Bylaw 17 playing and practice season
regulations; and (Revised: 1/10/92, 1/14/97 effective 8/1/97, 4/26/01 effective 8/1/01, 3/10/04, 5/11/05, 8/4/05,
4/26/07 applicable to student-athletes who initially enrolled full time in a collegiate institution on or after 8/1/03,
9/18/07, 4/24/08)
(d) In individual sports, the injury or illness occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in more than
three dates of competition or 30 percent (whichever number is greater) of the maximum permissible number
of dates of competition as set forth in Bylaw 17 plus one date for a conference championship (e.g., gymnastics:
13+1=14, wrestling: 16+1=17), regardless of whether the team participates in the conference championship,
provided the institution is a member of a conference and the conference holds a championship event
in the applicable sport. Dates of competition that are exempted per Bylaw 17 (e.g., alumni contests, foreign
team in U.S.) from the maximum permissible number of dates of competition do not count toward the
number of dates in which the student-athlete has participated. (Adopted: 4/24/08)

bubba caldwell. hold on, he might have been red shirted as a frosh; need to look at that one.I can't think of a single instance where a player, having never missed a season due to injury, has been granted a 6th year of eligibility after suffering a season-ending injury. It just doesn't happen...you can look it up, but I'm 99.5 % certain that I'm right.I still don't think you have to be injured twice.

Does it apply to athletes who have already used up their five years of eligibility? I know that a player can petition for a 5th year of competition due to injury, but what you posted makes no mention of the 5 year clock that starts running when the player steps foot on campus.Looks like he can get one to me.14.2.4 Hardship Waiver. What was the name of the kid who came out of Santa Fe High School and played on the line? He did crazy stuff like treat his injuries by stinging himself with bees--last I heard he was in professional wrestling.
If I recall correctly, he got a sixth year because of injuries.

If they hadn't used up the five years they could just get a regular redshirt - which is different from the hardship.Does it apply to athletes who have already used up their five years of eligibility? Tate Casey received a medical hardship for last season that will allow him to play this year, which is his fifth at UF. Again, what you posted makes no mention of the 5-year eligibility clock...you should be looking at the section that discusses the clock and the circumstances under which 5 years can be lengthened to 6.

Oh and Ricky...this hardship waiver is a direct answer to your five year eligibility rule.
Notice the Rule #...(14.2.4)...
Rule 14.2 is the "Five Year Rule"
14.2.4 is the Hardship Waiver which grants "an additional year..."

I don't feel like going through the rulebook, but here is an excerpt from one of many articles that mention the rule:
http://ucsbgauchos.cstv.com/sports/w-ba ... 08aab.htmlNCAA Awards Jenna Green Sixth Year of Eligibility
The two-time All-Big West First Team selection will return for UCSB in 2008-09.
June 12, 2008
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara senior center, the team's leading scorer and rebounder two of the last three seasons, was awarded a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, head coach Lindsay Gottlieb announced Thursday.
UCSB submitted a petition for a sixth year after Green was forced to redshirt last season with chronic back spasms. The San Jose, Calif. native, who currently ranks 17th on Santa Barbara's all-time scoring charts, averaged 11.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in four games in 2007-08 before electing to shut it down on December 20.
Green also sat out the 2004-05 campaign after tearing the medial collateral ligament in her left knee three games into the season.
NCAA rules require a Division I athlete to complete their athletic eligibility within five years of first enrolling in college, but exceptions can be made in cases when athletes miss two seasons for documented medical reasons.

Ricky, I showed you the rule from the NCAA book in black and white.
Or you can trust an article from a journalist who may very well have it wrong.

Or, you can look at bylaw 30.6.1, which discusses exceptions to the 5-year rule.

This waiver may be granted, based upon objective evidence, for reasons that are beyond the control of the student-athlete or the institution, which deprive the student-athlete of the opportunity to participate for more than one season in his/her sport within the five year period…

I still think the hardship applies when taken into the entire context of where it is found in the NCAA's rules. It is put in as a waiver to the five year rule. Take a look.

"To have a sixth year, you have to have two years lost to injury," Meyer said. "And C.I. doesn't have that."

No reason he can't be 100% by then Ricky. I just feel bad for him cause this will cost him in the short run. He went from a possible 3 rounder IMO to maybe an unsigned free agent.

With a great year, I think he could have moved into the 1st day of the draft. Even with the injury, I don't think he's at risk of not being selected as long as his rehab goes as planned and he tests well at the combine and UF's pro day.
