Yeah Doc..I know, I know...[spoiler=:3e5myfaa]but do you think its just a coinky dink that Desmond was on that island? Does Widmore KNOW that Desmond is on the island? Is that why he wants everyone of the island to die? But if Desmond was the issue, why wouldn't he just kill him...why does he need to kill EVERYONE? Assuming he wants the island for its magic...how would it be all that helpful to him unless other people found out about it anyway? At some point he's going to have to tell some people so he can charge them an arm and leg (literally) to go to it, right? I've been working for the tourist industry for too long.[/spoiler:3e5myfaa]

Mom7, I think Widmore probably knows that Desmond is on the island - but he doesn't care. In fact, I think one popular theory is that Widmore arranged for Libby to give the sailboat to Desmond so he could find the island (keep in mind this was 3 years ago), but when Desmond failed to return he had to resort to other means.
