The South Dakota Board on Geographic Names will meet today in Pierre, and will consider voting to approve new, Lakota-language, names for Little Squaw Humper Creek and four other Shannon County places with the word “squaw.” Within a year, the board hopes to vote for final names for 12 other places, all of them either containing squaw or “negro.”
