Anyone ever buy a vacation house?

My wife and I are considering buying a vacation home in Appalachia, maybe near Asheville, NC. Anyone ever done it?

bought and sold (my share) of one on pawley's island in SC

we thought we'd take advantage of having it but never did...good income earner though...just wanted out to reinvest in something else...this was a while back...why?

Just looking for general advice - good idea or bad idea? Pitfalls to avoid? That kind of thing. We don't have specific immediate plans, but we saw a good price on a creekside property near Chimney Rock and it got us to thinking about it.

the cost to have a management company maintain it is WELL WORTH IT if you are not living anywhere near it.
