Sounds like a great idea to me...let's see if we get a date set. I have the feeling this isn't blowing over anytime soon:
The American government -- which we once called our government -- has been taken over by Wall Street, the mega-corporations and the super-rich. They are the ones who decide our fate. It is this group of powerful elites, the people President Franklin D. Roosevelt called "economic royalists," who choose our elected officials -- indeed, our very form of government. Both Democrats and Republicans dance to the tune of their corporate masters. In America, corporations do not control the government. In America, corporations are the government.
{. . .}
I'm calling for a national strike, one designed to close the country down for a day. The intent? Real campaign-finance reform and strong restrictions on lobbying. Because nothing will change until we take corporate money out of politics. Nothing will improve until our politicians are once again answerable to their constituents, not the rich and powerful.
Let's set a date. No one goes to work. No one buys anything. And if that isn't effective -- if the politicians ignore us -- we do it again. And again. And again.
The real war is not between the left and the right. It is between the average American and the ruling class. If we come together on this single issue, everything else will resolve itself. It's time we took back our government from those who would make us their slaves.
i'd rather spend my time learning how i might be able to operate within the framework of 'the system' and be successful rather than complain and get shit done.
i have faith that my kids will overcome any speed bumps along the way on their road to success...and i have faith that my kids will enstill the same beliefs in their own kids like i have in them.
but still, my kids and their kids'll will continue to need 'the shouters' and 'the noisemakers' to divert everyone's attention away from those who do succeed amidst the parameters of 'the system' in order to benchmark their successes.

Fair enough. I guess I probably judge success differently than you do. The only success worth working for, IMO, is the increase of freedom available. I don't see how that can happen through simply working within the system since all of your work goes to strengthen the power of the system which seeks to control rather than liberate.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here. Care to elaborate?
I've never met a retarded person who wasn't smiling.
there'll always be guys who 'do stuff' and there'll always be guys who "talk about doing stuff"
the guys who talk - they just talk but don't do anything...the guys who do stuff just get it done....the guys who get it done - they need "the guys who talk a lot of shit" to exist so as to differentiate between the two.
Is it really all that smart to just "do stuff" without talking and thinking about it first? Do good actions not require preparation? Or do you think all of that hard work has been done by the system for us and so long as we fall in line and do what we're told, we'll be "successful"?

I AM SAYING - get your shit done and work within the parameters of the game...be successful (whoever's terms or interpretation of success that might be) and enjoy your accomplishments.
don't get caught overthinking, overanalyzing, overdissecting, overcontesting, overpissing on the rules of play...understand them and operate to the best of your abilities...be educated about the rules and be the first to adapt should the rules change in midstream...but for gods sake - don't stop to think and overdeliberate the merits, the rules, the 'fairness' when you hear that starters pistol go off...JUST RUN!!!!!
hey man....while you're out contesting the rules, i and most others are competing for their rightful places...you can argue the rules to improve but at the end of the day, you're gonna fall behind.
just continue on with spinnin your wheels and such and see how far that gets you...i admire you for fightin the good fight but cut bait already and work the system to your advantage (without having to be a menace to society of course)
Fall behind? In what way? From a different perspective, those falling the furthest behind are the blind followers who mindlessly compete over things that ultimately amount to nothing simply because someone else has told them it is their duty to compete.
The only advantage I want is meaningful freedom which cannot be gained from working the system.

Nope. I wouldn't participate in a strike under 90% of the conditions I can think of. I have never believed in such behavior. If I am being paid a fair wage for my work, then I have no reason to strike. If I am not being paid a fair wage, then I have the responsibility to find a place where I will be. That generally requires me to become more skilled in some way.
